Around Estes Park are some truly breathtaking landmarks, created and sculpted by nature. The Longs Peak mountain is one such landmark in the Estes Park area, and known for its hiking trails and views, which stretch for literally miles and miles.
The Old Man Mountain is amongst the most important of all the region's natural landmarks and is often referred to locally as the 'Sitting Man Mountain'. Something quite different in Estes Park is the Stanley Hotel, a huge palatial building has now made an appearance on the National Register of Historic Places.

The very famous Stanley Hotel has become one of the most important and significant landmarks in Estes Park and dates back just over 100 years, when it was built by wealthy businessman Freelan Oscar Stanley, who was known for his steam-powered car, the Stanley Steamer. Reputedly haunted, this grand building boasts a very impressive past guest list of many famous celebrities, including former US president Theodore Roosevelt, the Emperor of Japan and author Stephen King, who was famously inspired to write his best selling novel 'The Shining' whilst staying here. Next to Stanley Hotel, the area of Lumpy Ridge may be of interest and is a popular spot for rock climbing.

Longs Peak is a particularly distinctive mountain within the Rocky Mountain National Park, featuring a flat top and being within easy reach of Estes Parks. Towering at more than 4,300 meters / 14,100 feet, Longs Peak is the tallest mountain in the entire region and offers visitors a host of different hiking trails, of varying degrees of difficulty. The Keyhouse Route is a very popular hiking trail enjoyed by literally thousands of visitors each year, and is around 13 km / 8 miles in length.

Close to Pine Haven and to the west of Estes Park, Old Man Mountain and its breathtaking granite peak now appears on America's list of important 'Sacred Sites'. Hikers will enjoy the trails to the summit on this imposing hill, being rewarded for their efforts with glorious views. The meandering Fall River is close by, along with a number of Rocky Mountain resorts. Old Man Mountain is hard to miss, since is stands around 200 meters / 655 feet above the surrounding valleys.
